Numerical Simulation Series: Fracture Mechanics Parameters
Abstract: In this edition of ESRD’s Numerical Simulation Series, the computation of fracture mechanics parameters via numerical simulation is examined in detail. Highlights include:
- Computation of 2D and 3D stress intensity factors (SIFs) by the contour integral method (CIM)
- Computation of the 3D energy release rate (ERR) components using the separated J-integral
- Review of Crack Closure Methods and aspects of their implementation for the computation of the 3D ERR components
- Examples of computing fracture mechanics parameters by numerical simulation (via StressCheck Professional), with evidence of solution verification
