StressCheck Tutorial: 2D Bearing + Bypass Loaded Plate – Filled vs Open Offset Hole SIF’s
Abstract: Using Parts and Solution Configurations to compare 2D thru-crack stress intensity factors, or SIF’s, for filled and open hole bearing + bypass loaded plate configurations. The hole location is offset from the right edge of the plate, and a crack edge is defined at the right edge of the hole.
The filled hole solution configuration solves a loaded fastener element in the offset hole, while the open hole solution configuration solves a bearing load distribution in the offset hole. General nonlinear analyses are performed for both solution configurations, and crack tip SIF’s are extracted from the NLGen solutions using the Fracture Mechanics module.
