The following workflow is outlined:
  1. Open existing 3D-Fracture Handbook model (CrackOpenHole-ResidualStresses.scw)
  2. Add parameters, convert material to elastic-plastic, and modify the model boundary conditions for a cold-work simulation
  3. Solve a linear solution, and then solve the cold-work simulation events via incremental plasticity
  4. Use BRS mapping to map the cold-work solution to a new part
  5. Assign BRS load and remote traction, convert material to linear-elastic, and modify constraints to represent the crack face
  6. Solve a linear analysis and extract SIF's/J-integrals

  • Significant improvement in overall shape of the validation part was observed.
    • Demonstrated good predictive performance for the inverse problem of reshaping.
  • The extreme distortion in a partially-peened state was predictable.
  • The difference between the predicted final shape and the actual final shape was less than the difference between the actual final shape and the target shape.
    • Demonstrated good predictive performance for the forward problem of reshaping.

The titanium's elastic-plastic material is described by a Ramberg-Osgood curve with pure isotropic hardening (i.e.  (beta=0). The mandrel insertion/removal nonlinear event is simulated by normal springs + spring displacements. Planar (plane stress) and 3D (Extrude reference) models are solved via Incremental plasticity theory and residual stresses are studied.]]>
