In this fourth of our multi-part series on “S.A.F.E.R. Numerical Simulation for Structural Analysis in the Aerospace Industry”, we will explore the topic of Simulation Governance, and why both simulation users and their managers on A&D programs should care. […]
In this 45-minute webinar, hosted by the Altair Partner Alliance (APA), we will discuss how ESRD’s CAE Handbook modernizes and streamlines the implementation of digital engineering handbooks for the standardization of corporate process workflows.
WEBINAR HIGHLIGHTS
The CAE Handbook framework allows for the corporate standardization of many engineering computational simulations. This is done by allowing companies to build an electronic or digital handbook models that captures corporate intellectual property. This enables non-FEA experts to solve many basic simulations that historically have been simplified in the form of Microsoft Excel engineering computation spreadsheets, and internally developed engineering programs that are only fully understood by the engineers who develop them. CAE Handbook guarantees consistent results and provides an objective measure of the quality of the solution.
Strategies will be explored for developing mathematical models to support condition-based maintenance (CBM) decisions via a practical case study.
WEBINAR SUMMARY
This webinar, hosted by ESRD partner Revolution in Simulation, will present a case study in which the goal was the development of a mathematical model for supporting condition-based maintenance (CBM) decisions.
The model was designed for estimating the remaining fatigue service life of high-value mechanical components, given their service history and that specific flaws (such as corrosion defects) have been discovered in them, thus enabling CBM to move damaged component removals from unscheduled to scheduled maintenance action.
WEBINAR HIGHLIGHTS
Mathematical models have both intuitive, creative components and objective, science-based components. These two components must be in equilibrium.
What is the difference between finite element modeling and numerical simulation?
What is the domain of calibration and how to specify it?
How the outcome of validation experiments should be evaluated and reported?
Why is the development of mathematical models open-ended? – Why no one can claim to have the last word?
Why simulation governance is essential for the success of numerical simulation projects?
This 15-minute recorded presentation was prepared for the NAFEMS World Congress (Salzburg, October 2021). It highlights the mission-oriented nature of simulation governance and presents an example of a model development project.
The main ideas of, and the case for, simulation governance are easy to understand. The development and implementation of a plan for simulation governance is not at all easy, however, and requires careful consideration of the mission, and associated predictive model(s), at hand.
In this pre-recorded webinar, ESRD Chairman Dr. Barna Szabó addresses some of the key issues of simulation governance, including how model development must adhere to the requirements of simulation governance in order to minimize risk and magnify reliability.
Why planning for simulation governance is mission-dependent
Application of the concepts and procedures of predictive computational science: Focus on model development
Example of a model development project: Prediction of the probability of fatigue failure of a metal part subjected to cyclic loading in the high cycle range
Why the open-ended nature of model development projects makes the exercise of simulation governance essential
Strategies will be explored for democratizing engineering simulations via Sim Apps which are: 1) based on the latest Numerical Simulation technologies, 2) available in Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) form, and most importantly 3) Simulation Governance-compliant.
When utilized by engineers without specialized training, simulation technologies (and Sim Apps) based on legacy FEA technologies struggle to deliver trustworthy solutions due to their inability to objectively measure & report solution quality, an essential requirement of Simulation Governance (Sim Gov). This uncertainty inhibits true democratization of engineering simulations. So what is needed?
This four-part webinar will be jointly presented by ESRD and Revolution in Simulation (Rev-Sim), and will explore the following questions and concepts:
Part 1: What is a Simulation Application – Sim App?
Part 2: Why is Simulation Governance compliance critical for the development and deployment of FEA-based Sim Apps?
Part 3: What FEA technology is required to support the democratization of Simulation Governance-compliant, Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Sim Apps?
Part 4: Demonstration of a Simulation Governance-compliant, FEA-based COTS tool supporting the A&D Industry for the democratization of engineering simulations (ESRD’s CAE-HB)
LIVE DEMO: You will see a live demonstration of ESRD’s CAE Handbook, a COTS, Sim Gov-compliant Sim App based on ESRD’s StressCheck Professional numerical simulation technology.
In late February 2021, ESRD’s CAE Handbook was officially added to the Altair Partner Alliance (APA). CAE Handbook provides an elegant and intuitive framework for deploying StressCheck-powered digital handbook solutions.
ESRD is pleased to announce a new webinar, scheduled for April 22, 2021 @ 11:00 am EST.
This webinar, hosted by ESRD partner Revolution in Simulation, will present a case study in which the goal was the development of a mathematical model for supporting condition-based maintenance (CBM) decisions.
“In the case of the through crack configuration, the comparison of experimental and StressCheck derived geometry factors showed a close correlation and were an improvement to solutions provided in AFGROW at the time. Based on the results of this research, StressCheck pin-loaded lug geometry factors have since been incorporated into the AFGROW software.”
